Deli Manager

Position Location: North Vancouver

Position Overview: This is a great opportunity for an individual who places equal emphasis on customer and employee engagement, excels at relationship building, and has a hands-on, collaborative approach in leadership and decision making, and enjoys food preparation – all in a grocery store setting! Our Deli department has a great selection of ready-to-eat food items for customers, including pastas, salads, mixed vegetables, samosas, and sliced meats and cheeses.

The Role:

  • Leads and inspires their team to ensure a positive customer shopping experiences
  • Manages the daily operations of the Deli department
  • Recommends, slices, dishes, packages, weighs, and prices deli items for customers
  • Prepares special orders and party platters
  • Contributes in and oversees food preparation, cooking, and rotation of food to ensure high quality and freshness
  • Delegates duties and responsibilities to employees
  • Builds and maintains positive employee and vendor relationships
  • Writes and places regular product orders
  • Manages and increases department profitability and sales through effective budgeting, merchandising, controlling expenses and driving sales
  • Schedules and budgets labour costs and hours based on departmental demands
  • Evaluates staff member performance and provides appropriate feedback
  • Assists in recruiting, hiring, training, and onboarding
  • Complies with health and safety regulations as well as company policies and procedures
  • Attends weekly department management meetings as well as occasional upper management meetings
  • Is instrumental in supporting and executing new company programs

Experience & Education:

  • Previous experience working in a food preparation environment and experience in a supervisory or management position leading a team of 10-15 employees is preferred
  • Previous experience working with unionized employees an asset
  • Successful completion of secondary school
  • Currently eligible to work in Canada

  • Is proficient in using MS Outlook, Excel, Word, and time and attendance software for employee management
  • Places a high degree of value on self-development and is not afraid to learn new skills

Certifications:

  • Food Safe an asset
  • First Aid Certificate – Level 1 an asset

Salary/Hourly Rate: $40,000-55,000/annual (based on candidate experience)
